Fade To Ombre
Kingdom Of Style 22 May 2012, 1:30 pm CEST
With the Kingdom finally getting a bit of sun, it feels a wee bit absurd thinking about tights, but don't let this bout of sunshine fool you - it'll be back to snow and hail next week, mark my words.
The ombre trend, which started in earnest a few seasons ago, is still going pretty strong, albeit it in a subtler way to when it initially began. It's been a little refreshed since then and we are seeing delicious combos such as white fading into citrus and neon brights.
I haven't found anything in ombre yet that has enticed me to buy, but these BZR tights are certainly coming close to finally making me take the plunge and get some ombre for myself.
I absolutely love them and they have appeared on my Tumblr. They aren't especially cheap, costing around £30 per pair, but the ombre effect is perfectly smooth and executed really well - it can often be done badly resulting in a clumsy and uneven fade - but the transistion from one colour to another on these is just right.
So even though I'm looking outside at some lovely warn sunshine, my mind is cast to cold days when these tights could keep me nice and warm and all ombred up.

Time Passes
Kingdom Of Style 22 May 2012, 9:45 am CEST
As of last week, I am now 39 years of age. Crikey, how did that happen?! It only feels like yesterday I was 17 years old, spending summers hanging out with a bunch of friends and playing on skateboards. As you get older, time just flies by and before you know it, your 40th year of life is nearly upon you.
Whilst geting old is never great, there are many benefits age and experience has over youth. For example, the older you get the more things you get to see first time around. For me personally, haven gotten the chance to see my favourite bands when they were new is something I'll forever be thrilled about. I see 18 year olds wearing Nirvana t-shirts, yet they weren't even born when the band were conceived whilst I, on the other hand, was watching Kurt sing Bleach and batter his guitar onstage.
I am so aware that the way I dressed, particularly in the 80's, is much like the way I dress today which, unfortunately, also looks like the way so much of the younger people dress. Creepers and denim cutoffs? Band t-shirts? All things I've been doing for over 20 years, but perhaps come across a little as me desperately trying to appear young.
But I do feel there is a difference between appear young and appearing younger. I'd be a liar if I said I didn't like that people think I'm in my mid-20's. It's bloody awesome! But I would have a problem if people thought I dressed like I was trying to be young, rather than seeming younger.
We all have our own set of brakes we put in place when we dress. If I look at something and it looks like a 6 year old could quite feasibly wear it then that, for me, is a no go. I wouldn't have bunches or pigtails for this reason, yet there is a woman on the bus who is at least 55 who wears pigtails all the time. I personally think it looks a bit odd, but she obviously doesn't. Her brakes are different to mine and she's happy in little girl pigtails.
So when I wore this outfit on Sunday, I had to mentally check myself. Is this too young for me? Should I have outgrown shorts by now? Should I really be wearing stockings like this in public?
For some people the answers are probably "yes, no and no", but for me the answer ended up being, "Who cares?! I love it, so I'm wearing it!"....
When I do reach 40, I think I might actually really enjoy the absurdity of still dressing like this. It's almost horrifying! But, since I am quite twisted, I think I might very well end up dressing even more inappropriately. My fear is ending up one of those 'safe' looking middle aged women you see the world over. The most exciting thing they wear is a spangly top to go with their bootcut jeans. And they love a good wedding because they get to pull out a frock. If I ever turned into that, I would fully expect Prince B or Queen Marie to put me right out of my misery!
And see, I wasn't lying about the hat. Every post.
Actually, it's doubly awesome because when I was 15 I had a hat just like this, which I used to wear over a headscarf and I thought I looked just like a member of Faster Pussycat. My boyfriend at the time was some muppet who definitely did not look like Greg Steele, much to my constant disappointment. And he was a drummer in a band, which just wasn't as cool as a guitarist or vocalist. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride, as the saying goes!

More On 'The master'
Fashion Copious 21 May 2012, 10:36 pm CEST
Following the trailer, we have the following preview, after a 10 mintue reel was shown at Cannes 2012:
The first reel they showed was from Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master. We saw a lot more than could be shown in the trailer, naturally, as there were tits, masturbation and more violence. I couldn’t really get a read on what it’s about exactly except that people kept talking about Joaquin Phoenix like he was a madman. Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams were both great in what they have to do but it appears to be Phoenix’s show. If you’re looking for your possible acting nods, you have three potential candidates right there. I like it that it flies in the face of recent Academy tradition of safe, sappy fare. It throws down gasoline and lights it on fire. The music (Johnny Cash), Phoenix completely out of his mind jerking off on the beach with people nearby. And there will be blood, sex, sweat and tears. Anderson is a ferocious, creative mind at work — this is a deepening for him, not a detour. ... Of the three, the one that gave me that feeling of crackling heat was the Paul Thomas Anderson film, which looks so off the charts weird it will be a dazzler.
Awards Daily: Preview Footage from Weinstein Co Threefer – Django Unchained, Silver Linings Playbook, and The Master You can also watch Alex (FirstShowing.net) and Raffi (TheFilmStage.com) discuss the 3 films, that were shown by the Weinstein company:
Breaking Bad Returns July 15
Fashion Copious 21 May 2012, 9:53 pm CEST
AMC’s hit drama “Breaking Bad” returns on July 15 for the first half of what will be its final season, the cable channel said on Monday. AMC said it would show eight new episodes of “Breaking Bad,” which stars the Emmy Award-winner Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul as Walt White and Jesse Pinkman, this year, paired with its new reality series “Small Town Security,” about a family-owned security company in rural Georgia. The last eight episodes of “Breaking Bad,” after which there will be no more [SPOILER]s, will be shown next summer, AMC said. [NY Times]
In general 8 episodes' a bit lame, but it is summer, so I can see the decision they made.
